Words with personalilty

Copywriting coach and service
Salt and vinegar. Netflix and chocolate. Me and Salt and vinegar.

Netflix and chocolate.

Me and emails.

Somethings just go together! In fact writing emails to my community is my favourite job of the week:

Sound weird? I get it !! It used to make me cringe too, until I found my groove - luckily - as selling by email is the easiest way to sell. Full stop.

If you’re not there yet then don’t worry - like all converts, I’m evangelical about the effect making a little effort on your list can have on your business, and you. And I’m willing to help you!

So I’ve put together a few tips to help you on your journey on this week’s Creative Slurp podcast. Enjoy 😀
It sounds so obvious, so forgive me, but how often It sounds so obvious, so forgive me, but how often do you actually decide what you want to achieve from a piece of content or copy, BEFORE you start writing?

The number one reason people feel so overwhelmed when they start to write stuff for their business, is because they haven't decided what they want their audience to feel/do as a result. So simple, right? But it's surprising how many people skip this step!

Changing this one thing can make things so much easier.

If you want to find out more about my super easy writing process, you can find out my secrets in my BRAND NEW mini-course - Be Copy Confident. 🖊📖

You know when everything is planned...and well it You know when everything is planned...and well it all goes to pot?

Well, that.

Today I woke up to my eldest son, Hugo, being poorly, so it was time to rearrange my day!

Now on inbox clean up and other admin tasks and cancelling the Zooms. It can be so tough when you have to keep chopping and changing your plans as a Mum, but I always remind myself I wouldn't be doing any of this if it wasn't for my kids, who gave me the confidence to be myself.

Whatever you've got planned this week, hope it's a good one and remember, if it doesn't go to plan, maybe the universe just has different plans for you. It will all work out in the end.

🧡
Rejection, failure? Yup, been there so many time Rejection, failure?

Yup, been there so many times,

But now (even though it still hurts) as much as when I failed my driving test 5 times, I now think of it as on the path to success.

Things go wrong? That’s another one down until you make it!

When I was younger my cousin told me that he put all his rejection letters on his bedroom wall to spur him on. At the time it sounded crazy, but now it makes sense. And it must have worked, because he got his dream job.

In this episode of Creative Slurp I look at failure and how it can be a positive thing - yes, really!

Enjoy ☺️
I remember it well. 16 years ago. Shaking like a I remember it well. 16 years ago.

Shaking like a leaf.

My voice going a hundred miles an hour. Which was a bit of a problem as I was reading the news.

I was used to performing in front of live audiences, but this was something different. I was waaaay out of my comfort zone.

Picture the scene - I was a newly qualified journalist, reading my first news bulletin for a big BBC regional radio station.

I didn't really feel I knew what I was doing (although I'd practised hundreds of times), and I felt so scared.

But somewhere in my bones I knew I had to put myself through this to challenge myself.

Fast forward just a year and I was the go to newsreader for another station - completely in my comfort zone. News reading ended up being one of my biggest strengths and I loved it!

But that very first day, when my hands were shaking as I lifted the faders and my news editor kept flinging the door open to ask me what was going on, I felt terrified.

This is totally normal.

Whenever you do ANYTHING for the first time, you will be nervous. This doesn't mean you can't get good at it (if you want to). This just means you're a beginner right now.

Trying new things is good because it's how we grow...and if we're not growing then, well, we're kind of dead. Just like a plant, we need to keep growing to survive and thrive.

Challenge is good. Being scared is good.

And I've found that the things that scare us the most are very often the things that we really do need to do!

What are you going to do today that scares you?
It’s often said, ‘The master has failed more t It’s often said, ‘The master has failed more times than the beginner has even tried.’ And it’s so true!

It’s so easy when we see success stories in these squares, or in the media, to think that those people have hit lucky, or that we’re somehow not good enough.

Not true.

They’ve probably already tried numerous times and failed - just like you only see the top of an iceberg, you only see their success, but not their endless failures.

I’ve failed so many times, but I keep on going and I always remind myself how JK Rowling was turned down so many times by publishers, or how James Dyson produced more than 5000 (!) prototypes, before he succeeded with creating his first bagless vacuum.

Failure is a fact of life if you want success. So you need to start dealing with it now.

I know it’s tough, so in this week’s Creative Slurp podcast episode, I talk open and honestly about how I deal with failure on a daily basis.

If you need a pep talk, this ones for you!

I don’t wait for the answers any more. I have I don’t wait for the answers any more.

I have changed A LOT in the last few years.

I’ve became a Mum and a businesswoman.

My confidence and skills have grown and I’ve learned so much.

I’ve grown in ways I could never imagined, through a combination of building networks, reading books, finding mentors and taking courses.

But if I could pinpoint one single thing I’ve learned which has changed me the most, it’s this: you won’t get answers and clarity sitting around trying to work things out. In fact, the only way I’ve ever got clear on ANYTHING, and make progress, is to take ACTION.

Just doing something, anything at all, is how you learn. Whether it’s staring at a blank page trying to write something, or wondering whether a new hobby/career is for you, the only way of finding out is to get started.

Clarity ALWAYS comes from action (even if its a bit scary, because you don’t know what will happen).

This week I’m planning on launching a new mini-course in a way I’ve not taught it before.

What are you going to take action on this week?
How user- friendly is your website? Is it easy to How user- friendly is your website?

Is it easy to navigate?
Do customers understand where you’re guiding them?
Is it too confusing?

It’s a good idea every once in a while to give your website a mini- audit and check it’s as effective as it should be.

Need some tips on how to it?

Check out this week’s episode of Creative Slurp for a step by step plan on how to do your mini-audit - the link’s in the bio.

Enjoy 😉
When I was 7, I thought it was really cool to use When I was 7, I thought it was really cool to use coloured pens EVERYWHERE. I’m talking a different colour for every. single. letter. In a word.

Sometimes I’d even use multiple coloured pens to create each letter!

In my mind, colour was good. So more of it must be better.

I’ve since gone on to realise you could hardly read the letters on the page, there was such a multicoloured bonanza going on.

Writing content for your website is a bit like that.

When we start out, we all think that throwing as much information on the home page as we can is a good thing. In fact, to our minds, the more stuff we can shoehorn in - the better we’re serving our customers - you know, just in case they needed to know that we go to pilates on Thursday and went on holiday to Egypt when we was 5.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for telling stories in your copy and content, but you can’t overwhelm your customers with too much information. It’s just going to confuse them. And confused customers don’t buy.

I regularly go and edit my website to strip things out, as less really IS more when it comes to content on your website.

This can be tricky to do yourself though, so did you know I now offer a website audit service? Where i go through your site pages, see where you can make improvements to your content and customer service, and help you make things clearer, to ultimately get more sales.

If you want to find out more then drop me a DM or check out my website.

Happy website auditing!
Got a gorgeous website? Well done you! 👏🏻👏🏻

But psst...did you know that if you don't use the right words and content then it's pretty much a waste of time? So, be honest, is your website working hard enough for your business?

Yes, visual branding is important to attract your customer, but you need to make sure your words and customer journey are right too.

The good news? A few simple tweaks can make ALL the difference, when you know how.

That's why in this week's episode of Creative Slurp, I've created this guide to giving your website a mini-audit, and make sure your website is working as hard as it should be.

Let's get you more bang for your buck from your website, so it does the work for you and you can put your feet up!

What is your biggest challenge when it comes to your website?
8 seconds....that's all you've got. If you want t 8 seconds....that's all you've got.

If you want to attract your customer's attention.
Not long, hey?

So if you're writing your about page, or your home page like your CV, then that's not going to work. Writing in chronological order is a recipe for disaster and will leave your customer's desserting your website faster that you can say qui... (that's quicker than quick).

So what's the solution? Put your tastiest, most
juicy fact right at the top of your writing - this will entice your customer in. How do I know? This is a tried and tested method used by journalists over the years to hook in their audience.

I call it 'Putting your cherry on top' because it's exactly like putting your juicy cherry on the top of your cake - it finishes it off nicely and attracts your dream customers.

Why not give it a whirl, and let me know how it goes? You have so many interesting things to say, you just need to write them in the right order!

Like this tip? Why not share on your stories, and spread the love?
NEVER DO ANYTHING BY HALVES... I found this out f NEVER DO ANYTHING BY HALVES...

I found this out for the first time when I worked on stage in France. Working as a campsite entertainer (doing lots of crazy, potentially embarrassing things) I quickly worked out that it was impossible to be embarrassed by something as long as you threw yourself into it with panache, and refused to look embarrassed to your audience.

Learning this is a revelation - it's like realising the secret to life, as you realise the control is always with you.

This is a lesson I've carried with me through life - something only feels uncomfortable if you let it. So my motto is to go in, no half-measures. That includes my business and everything else I do.

What are you going all-in on this week?
